"Samantha Who?" (2007-present)

Christina Applegate plays a woman, whom as a result of an accident, has developed amnesia. Her former self was a self-absorbed, mean woman who walked over people. Flashbacks show how ugly her behavior was. In the present day, she is a nice, but confused person trying to get herself together. The people around her -- an ex-boyfriend, her sarcastic mom, and a colleague at her workplace -- are all helping and hindering Samantha as she builds a new life.

I have a friend who loves Christina Applegate because of her work in musicals (she was also the ditzy daughter on "Married With Children" (1987-1997) ). Ms. Applegate is likeable, but the humor in the show is small. While the flashbacks to the mean Samantha are interesting, the amnesia premise has been done too many times.

Barry Watson, who plays Samantha's ex, was one of the kids on "7th Heaven" (1996-2006). Jean Smart, who portrays Samantha's mom, was a cast member on "Designing Women" (1986-1991).
